Driveway cleaning in Blackburn, Darwen and across Lancashire
A drive gets dirty so gradually that most people stop seeing it. Then it gets washed, and it is the thing the neighbours ask about.
Most drives around Blackburn and Darwen are block paving or imprinted concrete, and both go the same way. Years of rain, moss, engine oil and general muck settle into the surface until the colour goes flat and the joints turn green. Washing lifts all of it and takes the drive back to the shade it was laid in.
The part that matters, and the part cheap jobs skip, is what happens after the water. Block paving has to be re-sanded with kiln-dried sand once it has dried out. Washing inevitably takes sand out of the joints, and if it is not put back the blocks lose their interlock, start to rock under a car and eventually sink. Re-sanding is not an extra, it is finishing the job.
Different surfaces want different treatment, too. Tarmac gets lower pressure, because too much strips the bitumen and leaves it looking bald. Imprinted concrete comes up well but wants resealing afterwards or it dries dull. Getting that right is the difference between a drive that still looks good in three years and one that looks worse than when we started.
How the job runs
What actually happens on the day.
- 01
Look at it first
Surface type, condition, any oil staining or sunken blocks, and where the water is going to run off to. Five minutes here decides the pressure and the method.
- 02
Treat the weeds and moss
Killed off before washing rather than just blasted out, so the roots go with it and it stays clear longer instead of returning in a month.
- 03
Wash it
Rotary surface cleaner for an even finish with no striping, then a lance along the edges and the detail a machine cannot reach.
- 04
Re-sand and tidy up
Kiln-dried sand brushed into every joint on block paving, silt cleared off the path and gutter, everything left swept.

Straight answers
Driveway cleaning, answered.
How much does driveway cleaning cost in Blackburn?
Pressure washing starts at £99. The final price depends on the size of the drive, the surface and how bad it has got, so send a photo over WhatsApp and you will get a fixed number back rather than a range. Quotes are free and there is no obligation.
Will jet washing damage my block paving?
Not at the right pressure with the right kit. The damage people worry about comes from holding a narrow lance too close, which cuts lines into the blocks. A rotary surface cleaner spreads the pressure evenly, which is why the finish comes out uniform instead of striped.
Do you put the sand back in the joints?
Yes, kiln-dried sand as standard on block paving. Washing takes sand out of the joints, and leaving it out is how blocks start to rock and sink. Anyone skipping that step has not finished the job.
How long will the driveway stay clean?
Two to three years for most drives around here before it is noticeable again. North-facing drives and anything under trees green up faster because they stay damp for longer.
Can you get oil stains out?
Usually a lot better, not always perfectly. Fresh oil lifts well with a degreaser before washing. Something that has been soaking into concrete for ten years has gone right through the surface, and the honest answer is it will improve rather than disappear.
